Bars around the Lower Mainland may finally be getting safer thanks largely in part of a new swipe card technology introduced by Treoscope Technologies earlier today. In bars where they tested their identification swipe program, bars like the Wild Coyote and Au Bar have seen dramatic declines in violence and druggings. Owen Cameron with Treoscope says he wanted this technology to help assist police, bar owners and their staff in apprehending those who choose to act out in our bars and nightclubs.
The system stores information from your driver's licence including age, sex and licence number. It also takes a real time picture of you validating your attendance at the club. Should you cause trouble, all Lower Mainland systems are linked so that other bars can then be on the lookout for you. The system has been given a ringing endorsement from Barwatch, and Vance Campbell.
