Club shootings could be prevented

Bar owners say the shootout at a nightclub in Burnaby this weekend may not have happened if the bar had an ID scanner. The Vancouver group Barwatch is now calling for the scanners to be mandatory in clubs around the Lower Mainland.
Barwatch owners say violence in their clubs has gone way down since they put in the scanners, which records the picture and drivers' license information of everyone who comes in. The shootings in Burnaby happened at the Shark Club on the Lougheed Highway early Saturday morning, after two men walked into the club and opened fire. The two victims, who were targeted, are expected to be okay.
