BC Liquor Board, Barwatch and Vancouver Police Consider Implementing New Bar Safety Technology

VANCOUVER - The BC Liquor Board, Vancouver Police, Barwatch and local drinking establishments are currently deliberating over the implementation of TreoScope - an innovative response to Vancouver’s growing crisis in nightclub safety.

The program is the brainchild of local Owen Cameron, bar consultant turned entrepreneur, who brought his vision of bar safety technology to life by creating a product set to revolutionize the way this city operates at night. His answer is Vigilance, a security and database system that is ready to be put to use in Vancouver bars and clubs.

TreoScope has already demonstrated their system at such prominent establishments as AuBar, Voda, and the Caprice. Barwatch and club operators have been extremely receptive to the new technology which allows them to know exactly who is in their clubs at all times. In a split-second, a patron’s picture is taken and registered with the data from their swiped ID. Club operators can use this information to prevent minors and banned individuals from entering their premises, along with being able to isolate drink tamperers and individuals involved in theft or fights after the incidents have occurred. These patron files can then be shared between club establishments who use the database to prevent repeat offenders and to ensure a greater degree of safety for participating clubs.

“This city is in dire need of a comprehensive solution to the problem of safety in our nightlife,” says Cameron, who cites the recent rise of drink tampering and bar fights as well as the shootings at Loft Six and The Cave as examples of this growing trend. “These tragedies can’t repeat themselves. TreoScope’s Technology is designed to provide a serious deterrent to individuals who may be considering endangering other patrons. The industry is actively attempting to provide its patrons with a safe nightlife, and this technology is a powerful solution.”

If implemented, TreoScope Technology would make Vancouver a North-American trendsetter in nightlife security and harm prevention.  The BC Liquor Board, Vancouver Police, Barwatch and local drinking establishments are convening over putting the technology in place, though all parties are already in agreement - serious changes need to be made in order to keep Vancouver’s clubs safe.
